Dr. Panem has extensive experience
in life science and healthcare venture capital. She has been
Managing Partner at Cross Atlantic
Partners since 2000. Previously, she was President
of Vector Fund Management; Vice President and Portfolio Manager for the
Oppenheimer Global BioTech
Fund; and Vice President, Salomon Brothers Venture
Capital. Previously she was Science and Public Policy Fellow
in economics studies at The Brookings
Institution and assistant professor of pathology at the University of
Chicago. Dr. Panem received as B.S. in Biochemistry
and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of
Chicago.
Dr. Panem has served on
numerous public and private company Boards including Martek Biosciences (NASDAQ:MATK),
IBAH Pharmaceuticals (IBAH), Confluent Surgical and Molecular
Informatics. She currently serves on the Boards of Acorda Therapeutics (NASDAQ:ACOR),
MDx Medical (Vitals.com) and
Labcyte.
Dr. Nothias leads the Biotechnology Team at Amundi Private Equity Funds. In addition to overseeing portfolio companies, he has made significant contributions by bringing in CEOs, syndicating financial rounds, and providing strategic advice. Previously, he was a biotechnology analyst for Paris-based Hambrecht & Quist. Dr. Nothias holds a PhD in molecular biology from Université Paris VI and a Masters Degree in Management from Université Paris Sorbonne.
Overseeing a global portfolio of
35 biotechnology investments, he is a board member of 2 US companies,
GenomeQuest
Inc. & Scynexis Inc and 5
French companies including Biosystems
International, Genomic
Vision, Ingen Biosciences, Ipsogen, and Trod Medical. Other
private or public investments include Targacept (NASDAQ:TRGT), PTC Therapeutics, and Somalogic in the US and
Trophos, Metabolic Explorer
and Adocia in
France.
Mr. Pietri co-founded Milestone Venture
Partners, an early stage venture capital fund located in New
York City which invests over half of its capital in digital healthcare
companies. Milestone was the first institutional lead investor
in Medidata Solutions, Inc (NASDAQ:MDSO), which
provides SaaS-based clinical development solutions that enhance the
efficiency of clinical trials and had a successful IPO in
2009. Including GenomeQuest, Mr. Pietri is currently
responsible for five of Milestone’s digital health investments: Octagon Research
Solutions, SmartAnalyst, MedPage Today, and MDX Medical
("Vitals.com").
Prior to Milestone, Mr. Pietri was an investment banker, a turn-around LBO firm investment professional, and a software company operating executive. Mr. Pietri’s operating experience spans direct sales, sales management, channel management, business development and business process consulting. Mr. Pietri received his BA (cum laude) in English from Duke University in 1989 and his MBA (valedictorian) from the Robinson School of Business at Georgia State University in 1997. He is also a CFA charterholder and a regular guest lecturer on venture capital at The Johnson School, Cornell University’s MBA program.
Mr. Lal is the General Partner and manages the day-to-day activities of the Fund at Mosaix Ventures. Prior to founding Mosaix Ventures, Mr. Lal was a senior investment professional with Vector Fund Management and UBS O'Connor for eight years where his responsibilities included healthcare investing in private and public equities respectively. Prior to this, Mr. Lal worked in management consulting with McKinsey & Company for five years.
Mr. Lal received his MBA from the University of Chicago, and MS and BS in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee respectively. Mr. Lal has served on numerous private companies Boards and currently serves as a Director with Argo Tea, ConsumerMed, GenomeQuest and KnowledgeAdvisors.
Mosaix
exited investments include ACIST Medical (a
medical device maker acquired by the Bracco
Group), American WholeHealth
Networks (a leading provider of integrative medicine services
acquired by Axia Health Management, which subsequently merged with Healthways NASDAQ:HWAY) and Omnicell (a clinical
automation provider).
Dick
co-founded DOME Imaging Systems, Inc. in 1989, and served as its CEO
until 2002, when it was acquired by Planar Systems,
Inc. DOME was the leading provider of hardware and software
products used to view and manipulate diagnostic-quality medical images
on PCs and workstations, enabling the transition from film-based
radiology to digital medical imaging. Based entirely on $2 million in
early-stage equity financing by a group of individual angel investors
(and a whole lot of sweat equity), DOME became a highly profitable
company with over $40 million in annual revenues and returned over $70
million to its investors and founders.
Prior to
starting DOME, Dick managed software product development teams,
specializing in high-performance computer graphics, at Lotus and at Number Nine
Computer. He has also worked at Tom Snyder
Productions, developing educational game software. Dick's
latest passion is DoInk, a Massachusetts startup
integrating social networking, art, and
animation.
Dick holds a Ph.D. in Political Science
and an S.B. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology.
