Case Study: High throughput sequence analysis project delivers customized report for on-going portfolio analysis

Freedom to Operate around Novel Primer Sequences

A large US provider of research and healthcare technologies had produced a collection of novel human DNA primer sequences and needed to review the patent landscape around them, specifically with respect to freedom-to-operate.

As current GenomeQuest customers, researchers at the company knew well that GenomeQuest contained the sequence data, search capabilities, and analysis tools needed to enable accurate and current evaluation of the patent situation of each sequence. However, they also recognized, in consideration of the size of their current primer sequence portfolio and their anticipated future production of novel primer sequences, that a one-by-one evaluation would take too long, and furthermore would not produce the high-level report they needed to make analytical business decisions about the portfolio. The client company wanted a high-level overview of the relevant patent landscape rather than individual similarity search result reports.

It took GenomeQuest's Professional Services organization just one week, from the date of the initial project consultation, to conduct a high throughput sequence analysis, and prepare and deliver a summary report of the patent landscape surrounding the clients primer sequence portfolio. The report contained exactly the information requested at the correct level of detail. The client is continuing to produce novel primer sequences and intends to use GenomeQuest's Professional Services again to characterize the business development opportunities they represent.
