Dr. Panem joined Cross Atlantic Partners in 2000 as a Managing Partner. Previously, she was President of Vector Fund Management, where she directed start-up, funding, and equity investments in the emerging life science and healthcare industries. Prior to that, she served as Vice President and Portfolio Manager for the Oppenheimer Global BioTech Fund, a $200 million mutual fund with investments in public and private biotechnology companies. A director of the New York Biotechnology Association, Dr. Panem received a B.S. Degree in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Chicago.
Todd Pietri is a co-founder of NYC-based Milestone Venture Partners, an early stage venture capital firm focusing on technology-enhanced services. In addition to Genomequest, he is a director of SmartAnalyst, MedPage Today, and BizBash Media. He is also responsible for supervising Milestone's investments in Octagon Research Solutions, Expertplan, Derivatives Portfolio Management, Navtrak, TargetSpot, Oddcast, and Dlife. Prior to Milestone, Mr. Pietri was an investment banker, a turn-around LBO firm investment professional, and a software company operating executive. Mr. Pietri received his BA (cum laude) in English from Duke University, and his MBA from the Robinson School of Business at Georgia State University. He is also a CFA charterholder.
Dr. Nothias leads the Biotechnology Team at SGAM Alternative Investments. In addition to overseeing portfolio companies, he has made significant contributions by bringing in CEOs, syndicating financial rounds, and providing strategic advice. Previously, he was a biotechnology analyst for Paris-based Hambrecht & Quist. Dr. Nothias holds a PhD in molecular biology from Université Paris VI and a Masters Degree in Management from Université Paris Sorbonne.
Dick co-founded DOME Imaging Systems, Inc. in 1989, and served as its CEO until 2002, when it was acquired by Planar Systems, Inc. DOME was the leading provider of hardware and software products used to view and manipulate diagnostic-quality medical images on PCs and workstations, enabling the transition from film-based radiology to digital medical imaging. Based entirely on $2 million in early-stage equity financing by a group of individual angel investors (and a whole lot of sweat equity), DOME became a highly profitable company with over $40 million in annual revenues and returned over $70 million to its investors and founders.
Dick currently serves as Chairman of IQinVision, Inc., an innovative manufacturer of high-resolution, intelligent, network-enabled video cameras, targeted primarily at security applications in commercial and government markets. Prior to starting DOME, Dick managed software product development teams, specializing in high-performance computer graphics, at Lotus and at Number Nine Computer. He has also worked at Tom Snyder Productions, developing educational game software.
Dick holds a Ph.D. in Political Science and an S.B. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Mr. Lal is the General Partner and manages the day-to-day activities of the Fund at Mosaix Ventures. Prior to founding Mosaix Ventures, Mr. Lal was a senior investment professional with Vector Fund Management and UBS O'Connor for eight years where his responsibilities included healthcare investing in private and public equities respectively. Prior to this, Mr. Lal worked in management consulting with McKinsey & Company for five years.
Mr. Lal received his MBA from the University of Chicago, and MS and BS in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee respectively. Mr. Lal has served on numerous private companies Boards and currently serves as a Director with Argo Tea, ConsumerMed, GenomeQuest and KnowledgeAdvisors.
Ron joined the company in 2002. In addition to overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations he is focused on building the corporate infrastructure needed to support the rapidly growing market opportunities for GenomeQuest. Ranauro draws on 23 years of experience as an entrepreneur, sales executive, and builder of world class teams. Before joining GenomeQuest he founded and led Blackstone Technology Group, an early innovator in the life science IT field.
Prior to founding Blackstone, Ranauro held positions in sales, sales management, and general management at Nextwave Design Automation and Exemplar Logic. Ranauro began his career as a software engineer at Viewlogic Systems and Data General Corporation. He earned a BS degree in management and an MS in computer science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Dr. Codani provides the GenomeQuest's technology vision and direction. For over a decade he has been a leading innovator in the development of the core technologies used to implement GenomeQuest. Prior to his association with GenomeQuest he lead a four year research program on large scale sequence search at the French National Research Institute for Computer Science and Control (INRIA). Before that he was instrumental in developing the computational tools necessary for the physical mapping of the human genome at the Genethon/CEPH.
