Job Description
You: a senior software engineer who fits right in the middle of the development stack, interfacing with database teams, UI developers, product managers, and customers to build killer web-based frameworks that drive high-throughput genomics.
You respect the balance for good specification with the need to know when it’s time to just get it done. And it’s never done till it’s documented, in the hands of its end user, and thriving there. If there’s one thing you can’t stand, it’s writing software that no one uses.

The Responsibilities
Designing and developing new features for the GenomeQuest web platform
Developing platform extensions and the APIs that go with them
Creating scripts and applications to fulfill customer-specific engagements (e.g., batch processing, extensions to platforms, new workflows, etc.)
Interacting with data modelers and UI developers, providing coverage in these areas from time to time
Producing good written specs and documentation
Leading projects that require team effort, while supporting team members in their respective projects
Occasional direct interaction with customers to resolve software issues
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or 4+ years relevant work experience
5+ years professional experience in software development
Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
Proficient in using Linux Operating system as the development platform, capable of performing routine administrative tasks on the system to make you productive
Fluent in at least one Object Oriented programming language, e.g. PHP, Java
Fluent in at least one scripting language, e.g. PHP, Perl, Bash
Basic understanding of relational database design and SQL
Previous work experience in life science industry or with bioinformatics background is a big plus
Previous work experience in startup environment is a big plus
